Alger Delta and WPPI Energy Offer ENERGY STAR Appliance Rebates

Gladstone, MI, – Alger Delta Cooperative Electric Association, through funding from WPPI Energy, is offering cash incentives toward the purchase of new ENERGY STAR qualified appliances for residential and business members of the cooperative. The program is available beginning July 11 and will continue until September 30, 2009 or until funds are exhausted. Alger Delta members can claim rebates by completing a rebate form and submitting it along with supporting documentation directly to the cooperative. “This is a great way to help the local economy and put cash savings in the hands of our members” states Tom Harrell, Alger Delta’s General Manager.

Qualifying appliances and rebate amounts are: Clothes Washer, $100; Refrigerator/Freezer, $100; Dish Washer, $50; Window Air Conditioner, $50; Dehumidifier, $50. “Older models of these appliances can be big energy users. When members get a newer, more efficient, model, they save money on their electric bill, we save on wholesale energy costs, and WPPI saves money on the cost of power plant construction. Everybody wins” says Harrell. “The rebates are an incentive to help members make a purchase decision they might otherwise put off” Harrell added.

ENERGY STAR appliances use significantly less energy than standard appliances and cost less to operate. According to the Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy, ENERGY STAR appliances can save 20 to 30 percent in energy costs over the course of one year.

To qualify for the rebate, members must complete and submit a rebate form along with supporting documentation. Harrell recommends that members obtain the rebate form prior to shopping for appliances. Forms can be picked up at the Alger Delta office, printed from the Alger Delta website (algerdelta.com), faxed, or can be mailed to those who request it by calling Alger Delta at 906-428-4141. Retailers must sign the rebate form and confirm the new appliance is ENERGY STAR rated. Members must submit the form and a copy of their receipt to Alger Delta. Rebate forms must be submitted within 14 days of the purchase date. “Appliances may be purchased from any dealer, provided the dealer signs the paper stating that the appliance is an ENERGY STAR model” says Harrell.
