ATTENTION BIG BAY RESIDENTS:
Even though power has been restored in the Big Bay service area we want to caution the members about “blinking” and even potential outages that may continue to occur in that region over the next few days.
The continued cold temperatures have not yet allowed the ice on the power lines and trees to melt and drop to the ground. As temperatures moderate the ice will drop off and cause the wires to bounce. Sometimes the bounce will cause the wires to touch each other resulting in the operation of system protection devices ( OCRs – oil circuit reclosers ). An OCR will open and close up to three times in a few seconds to allow a fault to clear. With each OCR operation there is a corresponding blink. If the fault does not clear after three operations the OCR will open and the fault must be cleared by a line crew before power is restored.
Over the next several days we do expect these blinks to periodically occur. We regret the inconvenience this causes and advise members that they may wish to unplug those electronic devices that they are not using in order to prevent damage that could occur.
We believe that over the next few days the ice will clear and the corresponding blinking will stop. We will have crews in the Big Bay area on a daily basis over the next several days in case of outages.
Again we regret the inconvenience resulting from the recent storm and appreciate the members patience as our crews worked some incredibly long hours in less then ideal conditions to restore service.
