Annual Meeting:
“Electricity is still the most economical source of energy produced,” said Mike Peters, guest speaker at Alger Delta Co-op’s annual meeting in June. Electricity prices have remained stable and steady, Peters said, while other energy resources, such as natural gas and coal, have risen dramatically over the last few years. He is general manager of the Michigan Electric Cooperative Association in Okemos. Peters also explained to co-op members how rate increase cases are managed in the governmental structure. “I am pleased at how Alger Delta’s performance gives creditability to the electric co-op process,” Peters said. As a manager, Peters said he is very proud of the co-op’s performance, but the gratitude belongs to the employees who make it all possible. Alger Delta’s employees, he said, are to be praised for their dedication to supplying electricity to co-op members and servicing hundreds of miles of power lines. How the co-op fits into the bigger picture of providing power to the beautiful Upper Peninsula was also shared.

The co-op’s board president, Gerald Krieg, opened the meeting with an invocation and tribute to our Pledge of Allegiance, followed by an introduction of the board of directors, manager and employees who are key to the co-op’s success. The manager’s report from William Tucker gave insight to members about the co-op’s daily operations. In the last year, Alger Delta added 181 new accounts, constructed 31 miles of new line, and crews completed $900,000 in system improvement projects to provide better service and reliability to members. Tucker added that negotiations on wholesale power contracts are ongoing, and that the board and management continue to be committed to exploring other resources to help contain costs and buy wholesale power at the most economical rate possible.
