Frequently Asked Questions
What is the PSCR Adj. on your bill?
What is the PSCR and why do we have it?
PSCR stands for Power Supply Cost Recovery and it is a charge – sometimes called a “factor” – that is applied to a members’ bill. The PSCR is a way for Alger Delta to fairly charge members for the cost of the fuel that is used to generate electricity. The cost of fuel for power generation and the cost of transporting fuel, especially coal, have been going up in recent years. The PSCR is adjusted annually to cover these costs. All regulated electric utilities in Michigan have a PSCR factor on their bills.
How much is the PSCR and who determines that?
In 2008, Alger Delta’s PSCR is .03227, or, just under 3 Ľ cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh). Each year, Alger Delta is required to file papers with the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) showing how we calculate the PSCR for the upcoming year. The MPSC reviews the filing along with the supporting documents, statements, and testimony to determine if the PSCR rate is justified. Upon completion of their review, and adjustments if required, the MPSC authorizes Alger Delta to begin charging the new PSCR factor.
How is the PSCR applied to my electric bill?
It is determined by multiplying the number of kilowatt-hours (kWh) by the PSCR factor. For example, if a member uses 650 kWh and the PSCR is .03227 cents/kWh, the result is this: 650 kWh’s X .03227 = $20.98 (rounded off).
